The San Bernardino County Republican Party executive committee decided Thursday night to write a formal letter of reprimand to Vera Eyzendooren, a fellow Republican member who made headlines last month over her racially-charged comments against then-candidate for CAGOP Vice Chair Harmeet Dhillon.
According to Assemblyman Curt Hagman (AD55-Chino Hills), who also serves as chairman of the San Bernardino County GOP, the group will “give her a letter of reprimand and move on.”
Eyzendooren posted to her Facebook page last month comments that suggested Dhillon was a Muslim and would support beheadings. ”I was told by one of Harmeets friends that because of her religion her loyalty is to the Muslim religion,” Eyzendooren wrote on her Facebook page last month. “So she will defend a muslim beheading 2 men without any hesitation.”
Dhillon is a Sikh, not a Muslim.
According to the Press-Enterprise, Dhillon said Friday she is “not in a position to second-guess what my colleagues have done. I’m glad they took some action.” Dhillon also added, “One would expect her to consider resigning or at least issuing an apology for the outrageous statements she made, which she has not done.”
